Most of us port agents/ground handlers make claims of reliability and quality services. Looking back at our maritime legacy, we can allow our principals to be our silent reference. Our underlying mantra is that we support our principals on the ground, in the destinations we operate in, and, in such a way that we elevate ourselves from mere service providers to partners. Partners, that are also the “eyes and ears” of our principals. 

Five generations of service speak for itself: our philosophy has always been to look at the long-term and uphold the promise “my word, my bond”. Mifsud Brothers Ltd. first started operations in the maritime sector back in 1860, then called “Fratelli Mifsud”. Between the first and fourth generation, the Mifsud family-owned small cargo vessels, one of which was requisitioned under Churchill’s directive to assist with the repatriation of British troops stranded in Dunkirk; then purchased seven tugboats which operated a salvage & towage service for almost 20 years and also represented a substantial number of shipping lines. When cruising was born in the 1940s, MBL started its longstanding relationship with Cunard followed by Swan Hellenic and Costa.

Fifth-generation Mifsud, Ivan Mifsud, took over the helm in 1998 and decided to focus solely on the cruise sector and today represents the following lines: Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, SeaDream, Seabourn, Hapag Lloyd, Viking Ocean Cruises, Scenic Eclipse, Mystic Cruises, Noble Caledonia, National Geographic Lindblad, Cunard, Holland & America Line, P&O, Phoenix Reisen, Saga Cruises, Star Clippers, Club Med, Princess Cruises, Carnival Cruise Line.

In 2004, MBL started handling cruise ships in Libya but sadly this successful operation came to an abrupt halt in 2011 with the Arab spring. In 2006, MBL started in neighbouring Algeria with a couple of calls and has since grown organically to cover 6 ports.

In 2009, MBL also entered the superyacht sector providing yacht agency and concierge services.

In 2020, preparations are in hand to open a satellite office in Sicily.
