MMF Board Member Dr Ann Fenech is an active member of the Comité Maritime International (CMI) and currently in her second term as Vice President of CMI.

The Comité Maritime International is a non-governmental, not-for-profit international organization. It was established in Antwerp in 1897, with the objective to contribute by all appropriate means and activities to the unification of maritime law in all its aspects. To this end, it promotes the establishment of national associations of maritime law and co-operates with other international organizations.

In June 2022, Dr Fenech travelled to the UN in New York where she has for the past 4 years been working as the CMI co-ordinator in the drafting of a convention on the International Effects of Judicial Sales of Ships.  In June the Convention was eventually approved by the Commission at UNCITRAL after intense deliberations. The approval by UNCITRAL of this convention continues to underline the important role of CMI in its efforts towards the unification of maritime law.
