Malta International Shipowners’ Association (MISA)

The Malta International Shipowners’ Association (MISA) is a voluntary, non-profit organisation and the collective voice of shipowners of Maltese ships. Established in 2004, on the eve of Malta’s accession to the European Union, MISA was set up in recognition of the need for the largest registry in the EU to have an authoritative industry voice and a seat at the appropriate EU and international fora.

MISA brings together leading shipowners of Maltese ships from across the world to represent their interests in Malta, in Europe, and at the global level. In line with its Statutes, the Association exists to:
• Promote and protect the interests of registered shipowners, charterers and lessors of Malta-registered vessels, and of Malta’s international shipping industry as a whole.
• Advocate for the continued attractiveness and competitiveness of Malta as a shipping jurisdiction – including its flag, its role as a company registry, and its fiscal, legal, and corporate frameworks.
• Represent shipowners’ interests before Maltese authorities, the European Union, and international institutions, including the IMO and ILO.
• Facilitate constructive dialogue between members and government, ensuring that legislation, strategy, and regulation reflect the needs of the industry.
• Promote Malta within the international shipping community, by highlighting its strengths as a maritime centre and working with peers to identify opportunities to attract further players to Malta’s shipping and corporate ecosystem.

MISA full membership is open to registered owners or charterers or registered lessors of Maltese registered ships and associate membership category is open to service providers that are, or wish to be, linked to Malta registered shipowners, charterers or lessors of Maltese ships.

MISA is governed by an Executive Committee elected by the membership in accordance with the Statutes.
