MaltaFreeportTerminals CEO Alex Montebello identified the skills set that will be required by the industry in the future as well as highlighting current skill shortages in an intervention at a webinar organised by the Malta Maritime Forum – in collaboration with the Westmed National Hub for Malta – entitled ‘Blue Skills: Bridging the Skills Gap through Education and Ocean Literacy’. Mr Montebello presented the Freeport’s approach towards the creation of human capital and upskilling of workers during the event which was also addressed by Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Minister Aaron Farrugia, Shadow Minister for the Maritime Sector Ivan Castillo, former European Commissioner for the Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Karmenu Vella, Transport Malta Chairman and CEO Joseph Bugeja besides other key industry participants. The event was timed to coincide with Maritime Day and enjoyed official recognition as a ‘European Maritime Day (EMD) in My Country.
